Raymond Domenech

Will Trezeguet’s performance for Hercules be enough to catch Blanc’s attention?

If David Trezeguet has anything to say about it, then yes. On this Sunday’s edition of Telefoot, he declared himself “available” to Blanc should his former France teammate decide to call him up.

In the past, Trezeguet has not always been “available” to France’s previous coach, Raymond Domenech.  Trezeguet hasn’t been a consistent call-up for France since 2006 – supposedly because Domenech never really forgave him for missing his penalty in the 2006 World Cup final against Italy.  Since his last call up in 2008 (when he… Continue reading

The game between France & Mexico in South Africa was notable for a number of reasons. France put in arguably the most abject performance of the tournament, including Nicolas Anelka politely telling Raymond Domenech to fluff himself, with the cherry the player strike shortly thereafter. Turns out not paying the utmost consideration to one’s duties was something of a trend that day – a Swiss doctor is in hot water for watching the game while performing abdominal surgery.

France had a number of big problems in their camp during the World Cup, paramount among them the post-Anelka fallout which was soon followed by France falling out of the World Cup.

It was reported to L’Equipe by a mysterious rat that Anelka had told coach Raymond Domenech to do unpleasant things, which one doesn’t do with an authority. That mysterious being has now been reportedly outed as…..Raymond Domench.

To put this in words football lovers of all ages can understand: Rayray tattled.

On Thursday, the French weekly le Point reported that it had obtained a copy… Continue reading

The World Cup is oh-ver, but international football continues. There’s the Asian Cup, Copa America, Africa Cup of Nations, Euros and then – before we know it – qualification for World Cup 2014 will begin. Maybe more importantly (at least for the purposes of this post) is that the immediate post-World Cup period is usually a time for change and rebirth.

International stalwart names like Thierry Henry, Fabio Cannavaro and Gio van Bronckhorst have all hung up their national team boots to make space in the changing room for new names. There’s a changing of the coaching guard too with… Continue reading

Credit for this story goes to our much more informed readers, Andrea4m and hkfczrqi.  While doing the previews for today’s international games, I noticed that ESPN had Chile playing in two friendlies tonight against both Northern Ireland and Israel.  Silly ESPN, I thought, clearly this must be an error.  Well, actually, there was an initial 30 seconds where I was terrified that perhaps I was the only person who didn’t know there was two Chiles (I’m from Texas, feeling cheated by the education system is just something I’ve grown accustomed to…).  But after recovering… Continue reading
